Chapter 8 — They Wanted My Company—Then Their Family Estate Needed Me

4.9Editorial score

They never funded Synkly, so they never owned it.

They never guaranteed my risk, so they couldn’t claim my reward.

They never stood beside me during the hard part, so success did not create a debt I owed them afterward.

And when they later needed me to preserve the property they had once treated as Luke’s inheritance, they discovered that I wasn’t the daughter waiting for a place at their table anymore.

I was the woman arriving with her own lawyer, her own capital, and her own terms.

I closed the old pitch deck.

My father walked into the room and saw it.

“You kept that?”

“Every page.”

He rested his hand on the back of the chair where he had once sat.

“I should’ve read it.”

I looked at him.

For years, I had imagined hearing those words.

They were smaller than I expected.

But they were enough.

“Yes,” I said.

“You should have.”

Then I picked up the folder and walked out of the dining room without waiting for him to disagree.
