I placed my hand over it.

“That belongs to me.”

She pulled back.

“You had no right to go through our booking.”

“It was delivered to my crew mailbox because you ordered the airline to involve me.”

Her lips parted, but no answer came.

The lead attendant stepped closer to the curtain.

She had heard enough to understand the situation, yet her voice remained professional.

“Mrs.

Carter, do you need assistance?”

Vanessa glanced toward her and seemed to realize that the audience she had wanted was no longer working in her favor.

“No one needs assistance,” Ethan said quickly.

The lead attendant did not look at him.

“Elena?”

“I’m all right.

Please move me off their section after the meal service.”

“Done.”

That one calm exchange stripped Ethan of the authority he kept trying to claim.

Vanessa’s fear turned into anger.

“So that’s your plan?” she asked me.

“Embarrass us in front of the crew and pretend you’re innocent?”

“I did not put you on this aircraft.”

“He loves me.”

Ethan closed his eyes.

Vanessa saw it.

The silence after her declaration was more humiliating than anything I could have said.

She turned on him.

“Tell her.”

“This is not the place.”

“You told me Paris was where we would stop hiding.”

“I said we would talk about the future.”

“You said you had already spoken to a lawyer.”

He had told her he was divorcing me.

He had told me he was in Chicago.

Both lies had been designed to purchase the same thing: more time.

Vanessa’s breathing grew faster.

“I put the hotels through the company because you said it was safe.

You approved every charge.”

Ethan went still.

The lead attendant heard it too.

I watched him calculate whether he could deny the statement, blame Vanessa or persuade everyone to forget it.

“You handled the submissions,” he said.

“Because you told me how to code them.”

“That is not true.”

“You sent me the client numbers.”

With every sentence, they exposed another layer of the arrangement I had only partially seen in the statements.

Vanessa had wanted to force Ethan to choose her.

Instead, she had forced him into a corner where his first instinct was to sacrifice her.

Her expression shifted from rage to disbelief.

“You’re blaming me?”

“I’m saying you made decisions without understanding the consequences.”

“You approved them.”

“Keep your voice down.”

“No.”

For the first time that morning, Vanessa stopped performing confidence.

The polished mistress in the cream silk dress disappeared.
