Any attempt to move or delete funds after the suspension could become additional evidence.
Ethan’s grandfather signed the emergency authorization.
Less than five minutes later, Vivian’s access was disabled.
Her first call came almost immediately.
Ethan’s phone lit up with her name.
He let it ring.
She called again.
Then she sent a message demanding to know why she could no longer enter the foundation’s accounts.
Ethan read the message twice.
“She knows already.”
“She tried to log in,” I said.
The investigator, still on speaker, asked Ethan to preserve the message and not respond.
Vivian called her father-in-law next.
He answered.
Her voice filled the small room.
“What have you done?”
“I could ask you the same question,” he said.
A pause followed.
It was brief, but it told me more than any denial could have.
Then Vivian changed her voice.
The rage disappeared.
She sounded wounded.
“You’re punishing me because I tried to protect Ethan.”
“You assaulted his wife in a cathedral.”
“She lied about being sick.”
“She kept her medical diagnosis private.”
“She is turning all of you against me.”
Ethan stepped toward the phone, but I touched his wrist.
The investigator had asked us not to reveal what we knew.
His grandfather remained calm.
“Go home, Vivian.”
“Restore my access.”
“No.”
Her breathing sharpened.
“If that woman has shown you anything, it is fabricated.
She has been planning this since she met Ethan.”
The investigator silently signaled through the call that he was recording the exchange with permission from Ethan’s grandfather.
“What do you believe she fabricated?” he asked Vivian.
Another pause.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You just said she showed me something.”
“I meant whatever lies she is using.”
“No one told you there were documents.”
Vivian hung up.
Within minutes, the foundation’s security system recorded repeated attempts to access archived files from Vivian’s home connection.
When those failed, she attempted to enter a secondary account that had not been used in months.
The account was one I had identified in the evidence package.
Her attempt did not move any money.
It confirmed that she knew exactly where the hidden funds were.
The investigator’s voice remained steady.
“Do not alert her.
We are preserving everything.”
Ethan sat beside me and covered his face with both hands.
I had imagined the evidence would bring relief.
Instead, I watched it dismantle the last illusions he held about his mother.
“She knew you were sick,” he said.
