No husband speaking for my interests.
Before the meeting began, the lights dimmed for the opening presentation.
For one breath, I remembered Jasper’s face when the first hotel frame appeared—the instant he realized the quiet wife at the back of the room had not come to watch him win.
Then the new presentation started.
I closed the gray folder on my lap and looked toward the stage.
