Marin looked at Asa.
Then at Rune.
She understood that both men were waiting for her to decide what came next.
She said, “Tell the truth.”
Galt laughed once, desperate and ugly.
“To who?”
Rune answered.
“Everyone who matters.”
Prosser was harder.
When Rune reached him, the loan shark still believed he could bargain from strength.
“Henning lied to me,” Prosser said.
“I was told there was a safe.”
“There wasn’t,” Rune replied.
“Then take it up with Henning.”
“You sent the men.”
“I sent collectors.”
“They nearly killed a waitress.”
Prosser’s voice chilled.
“She should have opened the safe.”
Across the table, Marin looked at Rune.
There it was again.
The same excuse.
The same imaginary safe.
Rune looked down at the folder.
“Marsh, I have your ledger.”
Prosser stopped talking.
“I have the payment records.
Galt’s messages.
The names attached to East Yard.
And Asa Solis is no longer there.”
The silence on the line changed.
For the first time, Prosser sounded afraid.
“You broke into my property?”
Rune’s expression did not change.
“You kept a man there under threat for fourteen months.”
“You don’t want a war over a waitress.”
Marin expected Rune to react to the insult.
He didn’t.
“That’s where you’ve misunderstood this,” he said.
“You think people become valuable only after men like you assign them a price.”
Prosser tried another threat.
Rune ended the call.
Then he began taking Prosser’s operation apart without firing a shot in Marin’s presence.
The ledger identified accounts, storage properties, collection routes, and the two men who had gone into the diner looking for the nonexistent deposit.
Rune already knew enough about Prosser’s business to make the information dangerous.
Now he had proof.
Copies went where they would hurt most.
Evidence of the robbery, the coercion surrounding Asa, and Galt’s communications reached investigators through channels Rune did not explain.
Prosser’s partners discovered that the man they trusted had kept private ledgers connecting their names to crimes.
Money stopped moving.
Doors that once opened for him stayed shut.
People who had answered his calls for years suddenly found reasons not to.
Within days, Prosser was arrested after investigators tied his organization to the diner robbery and the unlawful confinement surrounding Asa.
The two men who had attacked Marin were identified through the same network of records and recovered evidence.
Neither disappeared into some mysterious hole Rune controlled.
Marin insisted on that.
